Job Description

This position requires a valid California State Water Resources Control Board Wastewater Operator certification of Grade II or higher.

JOB FUNCTION/ PURPOSE

The Operator II is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the activated sludge wastewater plant in Crockett, CA, treating a combination of domestic wastewater from the City of Crockett and industrial wastewater from a facility processing sugar. The facility also includes a small laboratory performing process control analyses.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operates a variety of equipment/machinery including valves, pumps, motors, belt presses, disinfection equipment, vehicles, etc.

  • Maintains, compiles and updates plant operations logs and reports. Performs routine tests and monitoring related to plant operations, such as flow rates, pH levels, dissolved oxygen levels, temperature, chemical usage, liquid level readings, electric power consumption, fuel usage, sludge wasting and disposal site records, daily logbook and equipment maintenance records.

  • Performs treatment plant inspections, including monitoring and documenting plant operations by reading gauges, dials, level indicators, recorder, meters, digital readouts, and other instruments.

  • Monitors control panels and informs supervising operator of need to adjust valves, gates, pumps, and blowers to regulate process flows.

  • Performs preventive maintenance on all plant processes, including observation, lubrication, adjustments, cleaning, and part replacement.

  • Performs routine replacements and/or repair of treatment and laboratory equipment.

  • Collects wastewater samples, conducts laboratory tests and calibrates laboratory equipment.

  • Ensures facility is secure. Performs maintenance of grounds and buildings including, but not limited to painting, application of protective coatings, refurbishing, and other custodial tasks

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Willing to work all shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

Education/Experience :

High School Diploma or GED

Licenses/Certifications :

SWRCB Grade II Wastewater Operator Certification (required)

Valid Driver’s License (CDL preferred)

Compensation :

$32-$37, depending on level of experience/hour with a sign on bonus up to 3k

Education/Experience : High School Diploma or GED and 2 years water/wastewater experience.

Licenses/Certifications : Valid Driver’s License (CDL preferred). Water/Wastewater Operator’s License specific to state and site-specific requirements. Other licenses may vary according to specific site and assignments.

Technical : Ability to follow manual & operating instructions. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications & internet. Basic knowledge of water/wastewater operations. Working knowledge of electrical components.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be able to: frequently lift 50-60 pounds; load, unload & move large equipment/tools; access confined spaces; continuously walk and climb stairs and ladders.
